  • Karen  Hey Everyone! I have been asked if there is anyone who would want to be a pacer for the MB Mini Half in October. They are looking for consistent runners at the 8, 9, 11, 12, 14 and 16 pace. They need 1 person in each group and 3 at the Back of the Pack. You would get free entry into the race if you are a pacer. Please let me know ASAP if you are interested or know someone who might be. Thanks.

  • Murray  Recovering from bicycle mishap July 3rd. I was fortunate to survive a concussion and only have a rib fracture to heal. My current spped is 5 miles in 1:45!! Hope to be able to resume running in another 3 weeks and will try stationary bike tomorrow. Alaska was great and next is Great Desert Is., Maine on 10/17. My new goal is 50 states by age 60, or roughly 13 per year. See you at the next meeting.

  • terry  Our running club is in need of an Accounting System for tracking club finances. As a retired Materials Engineer who started with an Apple computer many years ago and now has an office filled with PCs, I've no doubt I can create an accounting system for the Club. I would base my system on a combination of Microsoft and Open Office spreadsheets with a few custom macros thrown in and a bunch of custom written code most of which I'll forget in six months. I might also throw in some Quickbooks code. However, in a moment of lucidity, I think the Club should have a more formal system. Anyone want to help? If so contact me at wlayton@sc.rr.com or call 760-709-2574. Otherwise, the Club will get a system created out of my imagination!

  • Pat Macc  Congratulations to all the new officers!

  • DrJim  congrads to the new officers. The future for GSRC is so bright I have to wear shades.

  • kevin  REMINDER: Tonight's meeting will be at 8pm at the J. Bryan Floyd Community Center, 1030 Possum Trot Road, North Myrtle Beach, SC. There's a link to Google maps on the event page - "http://www.grandstrandrunner.com/event/GSRC-Elections"

  • julie  GS Bicycles, I saw that you posted about the meeting, but I looked on your site and didn't see anything about when you meet to run. Can you offer some info and I'll include you in the next newsletter?

  • Jane  I want to encourage all area runners (and walk-runners) to become a member of the Grand Strand Running Club. This organization is involved with producing many local events and it includes some informal, social weekly runs in both NMB (see website: NMBRunningGroup.com) and south in Murrell's Inlet (I think). See the message below.

  • gsbicycles  Myrtle beach and the surrounding area. Just wanted to pass along some info. Grand Strand Bicycles has formed a running club. Please check out the website when you have a chance. http://www.grandstrandbicycles.com/running.html This will give us two groups on both ends of Myrtle Beach. We Welcome everyone to attend the runs that Rob Leo has started. We also have a few maps on line to check out. This group is not competing against GSRC. Just trying to help grow this sport in the area as well. We saw the need for a good running spot. Hopefully this will help. Stop in anytime and check out Somnio running shoes. If your having any issues this may help. www.somniorunning.com

    • gsbicycles  at 3:33pm on May 17

Hey A. Musgrova. Tried to comment on yours but won't work. Please see above. When you have a chance please stop into the store when you have a chance.

  • julie  If you plan to attend the meeting tomorrow and vote, please read the top of the homepage regarding GSRC member registration. Even if you are not planning on attending the meeting tomorrow, annual membership payments are now open and found here: http://www.grandstrandrunner.com/content/membership.aspx Our club memberships allow us to put on all of the local races as well as support local students with a scholarship each year for their dedication in school and track and field.

  • musgrova  I have a quesiton. I'm somewhat new to running. I started while in school at USC in Columbia. There we had a Strictly Running and Fleet Feet sports running stores. Is there a running store in Myrtle Beach or on the grand strand. Something other than a Dicks Sporting Goods?

    • julie  at 10:47am on May 15

sadly, no we don't have a running-specific store. The closest is in Charleston.

    • jbird  at 8:28am on May 20

I actually drove to columbia just to go to Fleet Feet and get properly fitted. The first set of shoes didn't work out. Fleet Feet was great to work with. They swapped shoes with me through the mail. :)

  • Murray  I plan to run 20 miles on Saturday morning, May 15th in Murrells Inlet/Litchfield area. Anyone want to join me for all or part of the fun?

  • kevin  Hi everyone. We've posted the information about the GSRC Elections meeting on May 18, 2009 at 8pm. If you can make it, please go to "http://www.grandstrandrunner.com/event/GSRC-Elections" and register to attend. It will help us plan for the meeting. Thanks!
